Hi there, my name is Darko! I’m so glad you’ve visited Yummy Spilled Beans – a personal blog about food, cooking, recipes, food styling, and photography!

I don’t remember how or when I fell in love with cooking and food, but I do know that while growing up, I was never too far away from the kitchen even though I didn’t really enjoy eating anything else except soups up until my teen years.

But the food preparation done by my mother and grandmother, who cooked every single day for the entire family, always looked fun and exciting to me.

So, I guess the idea that cooking was something great and beautiful stayed with me from that period of my childhood.

Like many other food enthusiasts, I started cooking “for real” when I was 18 years old.

I simply had to start cooking once I moved away from the comfort of my home and my mother’s cooking to get a college degree.

And as I began living by myself after college, cooking became an integral part of my life.

At that point in my life, I started exploring cuisines of other countries, and I realized how little I know about food and cooking and also how inexperienced my palate was.

One day I decided to change this, so I started a food blog which pushed me to try something new every week and share my favorite food experience with the world.

So the Yummy Spilled Beans blog will be exactly that – a place where I will post photos and recipes of home-cooked meals, everything I tried and found interesting, beautiful and incredibly tasty.

That is why you can expect different kinds of meals and cuisines, food stylings, and types of food photos. Because where’s the fun in doing the same thing all the time :).

But there is something barely noticeable that connects all the recipes into a single theme and that is my love of everything food related!

A little bit more about me

Even though I have a college degree in finance and banking, my whole professional life revolves around tourism. We run a family bed and breakfast in Croatia, on the island of Pašman. I’ve also started a company which develops web-based solutions for the tourism industry. And last but not the least, I run a business site/blog that teaches people who work in tourism how to use modern technology in their daily operations.

Because of all that work, my love for food and photography never became something more than an occasional hobby.

However, when I started a food blog in Croatian, all that has changed in just a few months. Cooking and photographing for the blog became a real source of inspiration for me and everything else I do.

What started out as a hobby has turned into something unexpected and so much bigger than I thought it would ever be.

As a food blogger, I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to work with some amazing chefs, food brands and food industry professionals in the last couple of years.

And today a part of my job revolves around food as well. I develop recipes, style food for shootings and ads, take food and food product photos, create videos, create food Cinemagraphs, teach at cooking workshops, and much more.

At the core of all the aforementioned lies my love for food, and I hope I’ll be able to continue doing more of it in the future. For me, that would mean doing something that I really love – a dream job!
